My first thought upon looking at the first picture was "You've got to be kidding!! A sure recipe for failure." I live in New Orleans, and I know our planting seasons here are different from the midwest & north, but for me, few of these veggies grow at the same time:
tomatoes - spring & fall, can't take summer heat
carrots - fall & winter
onions - planted in fall/late winter. 6 months to grow
red pepper & jalapeno - spring & fall, can't take summer heat
eggplant - summer, needs heat

This mat would be a major disappointment for a new gardener.

What a mess!
