I like using a scuffle-hoe, when the weeds are small and the ground a little moist it is super easy to go along a half-inch or so below the soil. It slices the small weeds quickly and easily. My son-in-law was visiting, and tried it out. He loved it and weeded most of the garden. He remembered growing up and having to pull weeds by hand.

Another tool that works really well and is low effort is a high wheel cultivator with the optional "slicing hoe" attachment. I use that to keep my row centers weed free. I couple of passes down the center and the row is hoed. I can do large areas of the garden in only a few minutes. I can go back later with the scuffle hoe and weed between plants. An hour or so every week does a lot to keep the weeds under control. That works pretty well unless I let the weeds get really big.

The only picture I have right now doesn't show the blade. Imagine a scuffle hoe blade mounted on the cultivator hitch... Here's a link to a sales site that pictures the hoe blade.
