One thing I like about this ID thread is that it makes me curious enough to do extra research. Thank You!

Looking closely at @jmorth's photos, I saw tiny spines on the rose hips - something I had not noticed in my 60 plus years because I don't pay close enough attention. I found a site with a most excellent up-close photo of some rose hips and some good recipes, too.

I agree with @SongofJoy that one should have a positive ID before using any plant products.
