I had dozens of crocus vernus pop up, re-volunteering after around 3 years in the same bed, and I was eager to get photos when they opened.

But they never opened! The blooms stayed closed for around two weeks, and then wilted after several days in a row of more rain than usual.

What would make a whole bed throw up lots of blooms, but let NONE of them open up?

We haven't had any very warm days, and very few sunny days, but neither has there been much frost lately that I recall.

I know they all opened the first spring after I planted bulbs. I think they opened the seocnd year, and I forget last year.
