So if you see a plant with dark green leaves, and the spikes with the babies coming out are very, very variegated. This is the best clue you have for the Hawaiian Spider Plant. None others that I am aware of do that. Generally if the plant is variegated, the babies are variegated. If the plant has all green leaves, the babies have all green leaves.
Hi, I just had to post here because I have just been royally taken by a seller on eBay. He advertised baby Hawaiian Spider Plants so I bid on it and got it. $7.00 It arrived today and it is NOT variegated. It is green with a tiny tinge of cream in the center. It is a baby , that is the only true thing about it if what you say is so. :ro fl: I should have known because he did not reply to my answers when I questioned him about the cultivar name he used when he advertised his spiders. I only wish I could remember how he said it but it definitely said it was a Hawaiian but ignored my question about the cultivar.
I had been reading about them because I really want to know what I have and what I am getting and just happened to read the difference between a C.Comosum 'Variegatum' ( has darker green leaves with white margins) and the C. Comosum 'Vittatum' (has mid-green leaves with broad central white stripe). That is the only reason I knew the difference because I have been selling spiders for years but only decided I should know more about them. Now I am completely taken with them. I just had babies on my 'Bonnie' and they are growing which makes me happy.If I am correct, I have the Variegatum and the Vittatum but I would like to add more to my collection. I also have a green with a cream stripe that a friend gave me and I am not sure but I think it would be called a 'Picturatum'. He told me it was a solid green, but I can see the pale strip now that they are getting bigger. Could you help me out with the cultivar for that one? Is the cream center a 'Picturatum'? I am 85 y.o. and a bit late trying to learn, but I am at least trying.
I also would be interested in buying or trading new varieties if anyone has some to spare. I will pay shipping and everything. Thank you in advance for your help.
