I actually love Sweetgum trees. Some times in the middle of winter I can smell them- they make a sweet, haunting smell. When I first moved down here, I would smell that scent but never could figure out where it came from. A friend of mine, a super smart horticulturist, told me the smell emanated from Sweetgum trees. It comes from the bark.
I did not know they attracted Luna Moths! Once in a great while I see one, it is always a treat. I used to see those giant moths, Cassiopeia is the name I was told. Have not seen one in a bunch of years though.
Cheryl, that is the coolest idea to paint the balls for Christmas! That would make a good gift! I would like to get something like that given to me.
