Hi Blankspace, and welcome!

It is getting late in the year, especially for perennials that often want cold stratification. But quick growing annuals sprout and grow fast in warm weather. There's still time for things like zinnias or marigolds that grow quickly. Best timing can be affected by weather, and I assume you're warm now in California.

Have you done any seed starting in the past?
