Sue, Leslie Renee was named after your daughter?

I bought LR a few years ago, as a gift for my neighbor. She saw it down south somewhere - N. Carolina I think. My neighbors do perennial garden design. They were in the south buying plant material. When she came home, she was telling me about it. She was in tears. My neighbor is not the biggest daylily person - her husband is - but she is not. Since I have been giving them daylilies for a few years now - shown them what is really out there, instead of Stella - they are becoming more and more interested in daylilies.

My neighbor wanted to buy LR - but it was really new and she could not bring herself to buy it for $175.

I was going to John Rice's a couple weeks later, and I got a huge pot of it for her - I think for $90. They are always willing to help me and I wanted to give it to her as a thank you gift.

Here is the story she told - when she was young, she and her best friend went through high school together, and then went to the same college. While in college, her friend was hit by a drunk driver and killed.

Her friend's name was Leslie Renee.

I saw LR blooming it's head off in her garden last year.

I never knew who the daylily was named for.
