These Tithonia plants were started from seed at the same time. I had many more but these were the only two that survived the cold snap the week I had to be gone. They are almost side by side yet one survived very well, and the other one had no leaves at all left and looked dead, but is making a come back.

I just started using small plastic tubs: 1gal. + 1pt. ice cream containers. Two small 6 cell plastic containers fit right in. At this time of year I really don't need it for cold protection, just from hard rains, squirrels, voles and such. I did manage to sprout seeds in them, that does not mean it is a good or bad method, just a workable method. So far mostly just Zinnia seeds is all I have tried.
