Gardenglory, We're near the coast so it keeps our winter lows mild, but we don't usually get the summer heat that the other zone 8's get. So it's a very different zone 8 compared to a lot of others in the US. Washington state has a lot of cold winter areas, there are some as low as zone 4. I'm just lucky to live in it's mildest zone. I agree though, it does seem odd.
