My order from Wild's arrived last week Thursday. Yes, the plants were small, probably had been in cold storage over winter. Three of them came in little pots: "Bridgeton Elegance", "Forbidden Desires" and "Unique Style". Of course, those plants were in better shape than the others. The others I ordered were "Fooled Me", "Marque Moon", "Pandora's Box" and "Siloam Ethel Smith". The last two varieties I already had from last year, but the price was right, with a BOGO sale, so I bought them again. All plants are now properly potted up and beginning to grow, except for one tiny "Ethel Smith".
I was interested in others' comments about the free extra plant they received. While I have purchased ONLY shorter plants from Wild's, they sent me a free plant of "Salmon Sunrise", which was shown as a 34" tall variety. I notice now that "Salmon Sunrise" is not even showing up on Wild's on-line catalog anymore. They must have gotten rid of all inventory. (I hope someday I'll also be able to purge older varieties in favor of newer, better ones.)
Last year I purchased a shortie called "Schnickel Fritz". From pictures, it has nice double, near-white blooms. Wild's listed it as 'new' last season, but it isn't even in their listings this spring. Mine just barely came through the winter, and its single fan looks pathetic. Maybe their stock behaved similarly.
Weather here today, Friday the 9th, is cool with light showers. The new daylilies should be very happy out there.
