I mix up a 5 gal bucket of super bloom (a much higher middle number) and dole it out to my in the ground D.R. about three pints each, I do that every other week. After feeding I water them deeply just to make sure I didn't burn any of the roots. I use the same mixture on my potted ones but add a bit of water so it's a little weaker. Those I also feed about every 10 days, but water them more often as they seem to dry quickly.
