Mm, don't think so, Jan. They need a winter rest, i.e. more cold dormancy than we get here. Just better plan to go back and visit Colorado in the summer when the clematis is in bloom. We moved here from Utah and lucky for me, my kids still live there so I get to go back and see my temperate favorites blooming in summer when the weather's really oppressive here.

Lots of beautiful, easy and lusty alternatives, though. If you want blue, Queen's Wreath is just wonderful, or there is a blue or a white Thunbergia Grandiflora aka Sky Flower that looks the most like a clematis, but blooms more.

Dozens of types of passion vines with beautiful purple, blue, red, pink or white or even (rarely) yellow flowers - and sometimes fruit! Coral honeysuckle is a great butterfly attractor with lovely flowers most of the year. Clerodendrum, or Bleeding heart vine comes in red, orange and white with red centers that is just stunning. Crossvine has red, orange or red/yellow trumpet flowers and again is a great butterfly plant. Rangoon Creeper is gorgeous with white, turning pink and finally red flowers on the same plant.

Many types of jasmine that smell absolutely divine, and of course Bougainvillea comes in purple, all the warm colors plus white, and also a variegated form. Watch out, they are very thorny, though.
