Plus there are thumbs for remarks or posts in forums. Its all pretty much time consuming to read all and respond.

One of the reasons I like to give thumbs up and acorns is so I don't always have to respond, but the poster knows I liked/enjoyed/loved/learned from/laughed/smiled/felt better after seeing their post. It only takes a fraction of a moment and my cursor is usually on that side anyhow.

It's just a quiet acknowledgement that the person added something that I personally wanted to use a fraction of my time to thank them. It's probably taken me only 30 seconds of my time for all the thumbs up/acorns I've given. And sometimes I'm in lurking or research mode and don't want to distract from my mission, so a thumbs up lets the poster know and they shouldn't feel obligated to respond. I've given a lot of thumbs up since I joined April 9 because I think it encourages people to continue to feel comfortable participating.

If it is the wrong use of these two features, I apologize, but I will keep doing it. I feel that I want my life and actions to reflect that I do appreciate others.
