Interesting ways to germinate seeds. I've tried numerous ways and did have decent success using the water and peroxide in the crisper drawer one year. Used the same method the next year and the germination rate was disappointing. Go figure! But I've always had success just sowing them... though I do use Spring Water with peroxide to water them. That has always been my most successful method to get a good percentage rate of germination (80-100% germination). I had that success with all the seeds I sowed this past Winter except for one packet of seeds I won on LA. Not a single seed germinated. They sent me bonus seeds and a couple of those did germinate. But the auction win seeds were a bust. Rather disappointing!
Michele - That is very interesting about the 2 eyed parents producing a solid colored bloom. It is a beauty indeed! But certainly not what I would have expected!
I have some Dragonfly Dawn x Dragonfly Dawn cross plants I am currently growing. I am curious to see what the blooms look like on the different plants. I had one person tell me that it would produce solid colored blooms. Who knows? But I agree, it sure is fun to see what surprise is in store when bloom time arrives! I think that is one of the main reasons (besides a small garden budget) that I enjoy growing daylilies from seeds! I love the anticipation and the unknown! The gene pool is so diverse with the current culitvars! You never know what you may wind up with!
