I grew up eating bitter melon and I grow them in my garden. Pick them when they are green and stir-fry with chicken or beef with onions or steamed; but you got to get over the bitterness of the melon - My DH loves them. It is really an acquired taste. My neighbor from India grows them in her garden too ( the small pear shape) and the ones I have are longer ~ 4-5 inches.
