If it was mine, I'd continue to prune off some of the the stems growing horizontally and focus on the thicker trunks. The plant should regrow leaves from the nodes. Generally, leggy etoliated plants are the result of too little light. A very porous and fast-draining soil is most advised for these plants.
I garden for the pollinators.
