The leaves and growth habit look very much like blackcurrant, do you have any such or similar fruit shrubs? They make tiny flowers in clusters on stalks off the branches, when pollinated the backs will start to swell. Rub the leaves to see if they smell, blackcurrant leaves smell like blackcurrants.
