I have never posted, but it's a good thing I'm writing here, because if I tried to speak I would be BABBLING! I'm not familiar with Utah weather, but I am gobsmacked by your hostas!!!! I'd love to print out each picture, MAIL them to you, and request a numbered "key" so I would know what's what. Or who's who, rather, because plants are people, too. Or at least I think they are. We have conversations -- a bit one-sided, admittedly, but fun anyway.
Typically of me, my question is about another plant. HOW do you get your Hakonechloa to look that gorgeous? I have tried it in several spots (at our old house) and in containers, too, and it just ... sits. We had only shade at the old house, except for about three hours of blazing sun at the hottest part of the day on some spots. Never enough to grow any
"sun-loving" plants, of course. It was a challenge, but Hakonechloa was one of my few total failures.
If anybody has any ideas, please pass them on. I'm in North Georgia, about 40 miles due north of Atlanta. My old garden had fantastic soil. People had gardened there since 1920, and our only soil amendment was our fall leaves, bagged in black plastic and ignored for a few years. Gorgeous stuff. Anyway, new house, wooded lot (all hardwoods), and a much less healthy me are what I have now, and I'm starting from scratch.
