It might be the snow cover. We do not get a lot of snow and have a lot of freeze and thaw periods throughout the winter. It is not unusual for our temps to be in the 60s a couple of days and rain then freezing temps for the next week.
Our winters are not constant cold and snow. We get rain, freezing rain, snow, cold then warm then back again to the up, down temps.
