Mary,

Both my front yard and backyard gardens are small. The little rose garden in the front was planted to keep dogs away. After several years the magnolia planted in the middle of the garden started casting shade to the roses behind the tree, so in September 2013, I planted three TPs behind the magnolia. I worried a bit because of the combination of roses (water!) and TPs (rather dry), but a lady from the Peony Farm convinced me that the spot was perfect for TPs. Fortunately all three newly planted TPs survived the ice-age winter last year and little White Lotus even had a flower.

The winter was horrific. Some members of our garden society lost whole gardens; everything. I thought I lost five roses, but I gave them a chance and waited. Three of them have got new growth, including my Iceberg. It’s always good to wait a bit.

Ten years ago, I was determined to create a rock garden in the clay that I’ve got in the backyard. After several years and dozen of killed alpine plants, I finally gave up. However, I decided to try with herbaceous peonies instead and I bought several “orphans” on sales. Now I have six. Four of them were not labelled, so I’ll ask the forum for a little help to ID the peonies.

I might have one more spot for a TP in the back, perhaps something like Spring Carnival. Again, thank you Mag for posting the picture.

Liz, Phoenix White is beautiful Hurray!
