Going back to the purple seedlings - I found myself struck by the glints of contrasting color on C. Was it a trick of the
light? Was it my computer screen?

It's a trick of light. Other than the fact that it's a bitone (standards lighter shade than falls) and the white striations around the beards, the color is fairly uniform across the petals.

That seedling is pretty close to a cherry tree and is in dappled shade at certain times of the day. On sunny days, I try to take pictures of seedlings before sunrise or after sunset because I think that's when you get the truest color in the pictures. But, it's a pretty short window between when it's light enough to take pictures and when the sun comes over the horizon and, with over a 1000 seedlings, it was often a struggle to get every thing done in time. To make a long story short, I often waited to take pictures the seedlings near the cherry tree until last because they would still be somewhat shaded even after the sun came up.

Cloudy days are better for pictures, but I don't think we had any while that seedling was in bloom. Hardly any during the entire bloom season, strangely enough.

I'd also like to see what the first orange one is like next year.

Me, too!
