I bought two 5-gallon polycarbonate jugs and one 3-gallon jug. Target and Wal-Mart. I suspect these are flimsier than the "official" bottled water company jugs.

Do you seal the top closed, or only when you have very cold nights? I would expect them to get very hot at noon with a sealed top, but for all the warm air to run right out an open top during a cold night.

I don't expect to wear mine out, either, but then I added some duct tape to the bottoms. I noticed that the bottoms got scratched when i set them down or dragged them on the concrete around our local public well.

I love the idea of calling local bottled water companies and asking for "leakers".
