Nice photos, Jmorth! I just saw that exact same skipper today in my yard! Do you know what kind it is?

I think the caterpillar is a moth, too. Just don't know which kind. I googled around a little, but couldn't find anything that resembled it. It looks almost like it's made of origami! Very unique.
