I know what you mean. I was in there looking for a theme or a story for a project I was doing for my Death and Dying class in 2012. Most of the oldest stones were too deteriorated to read. They seemed to be from Civil war era--lots of town vets, whose family names are still well known, were there. I also remember a lot from Spanish-American War.
