See the last picture in this - I have used a piece of cardboard to hold the thread apart so that a proper ting is obtained.
I'm really fond of the chimes.

I have a smaller one in the kitchen and I call it as my head-chime! Since wind does not blow strongly there, this chime does not ting in the wind but I have hung it in such a way that when I walk [tallest at home] in the passage, my head strikes the hung wood pieces that will produce the pleasing vibrations from the 8 tiny tubes in different frequencies. Others will also know that this 'tall cat' is in the kitchen! Smiling
