Ive planted seeds right after harvesting. I put them in sponges, not the ground, but same idea. It did take them awhile to sprout, and some it took a very long time, I just kept digging around and making sure they had not rotted. If I put them , or anything seed-like in the ground, the squirrels make quick work of them.
