I have to wonder, too, if the soil came pre-loaded. I have never seen so many worms confined to such a small area. I tried re-potting the plants in the spring - that gets expensive quickly - and was discouraged to find that I had the same issue later that fall.
I did toss the old soil into the garden, though.
