Native earwigs are beneficial, the introduced European earwig not so much. It can really do a number on flowers, see the earwig entry in the AHS daylily dictionary:

I'd wondered about them for Cat's damage but usually there is earwig poop in the flowers that gives them away as the culprit, like this:
