So here it is 2:15am in the wee small hrs.of the morning, and I am sitting here looking at all these wonderful blooms. I was not as enthusiastic about my blooms this summer compared to last year. It had nothing to do with the daylilies, they sent up scape after scape of buds. It was the weather here. Just too many cold mornings, and not enough heat.In the middle of July we had mornings in the mid 50's and low 60's. I lost of ton of half opened buds to the weather.

Here are some example of some plants I never showed you from the garden because of the poor cold morning openings.

FROM THE SEA (GASKINS) Late bloomer- struggled to open, smaller bloom, splotchy color. This is a sweet lily that opened and bloomed beautifully last summer.

I was so excited to see the big bulbous buds on daylily, IMAGINE (Gaskins) this summer. It was a cherished sdlg. DF when it arrived last year as one of the last intros the Gaskins introduced before they retired late last summer. It did not bloom last summer. In early August I took this picture of the plant. Buckets of rain later and some very cold mornings, and the only bloom I have seen is the following bloom which did not open all the way.

That is the best shot I have of this bloom. There are 3 more blooms on the scape that might give me another look but its getting very late in the season. If it opens before next Wednesday when we are expected to have some hot weather, I will be very pleased.

Here is a picture from Gaskins website of what 'Imagine' should look like. Quite a difference!!

And yet another example of another daylily that has suffered from the cold mornings

JOURNEY OF MAGIC- This plant bloomed last year and is truly lovely. JOM had about 20 buds on 2 scapes and this is the only bloom that partially opened. All 19 buds were nipped by the cold weather is the past 2 weeks and fell off the plant.

When the bloom season starts 2 weeks late after such a bitter cold Winter like we experienced in VT last year, it really has an effect on the late blooming plants because of our short growing season here.

I still have plants blooming brave souls that they are. Some that are still delighting me are some of my seedlings. I snapped this picture this morning.

SDLG. FANTASTIC FRINGE X ROYAL CYPHER - Great substance on this bloom, very hearty, and has a few more blooms to go. Color is a little more muted because of the cooler conditions. Also, Janet & Bill X Four Eyes has another bloom to go, as well as Cutting Loose X Gaskins A-103. My 2nd favorite sdlg., Fourth of 'July in Georgia X Deadiest Catch' finished blooming last weekend. Love it.

CAN'T TOUCH THIS

And yet another plant that is loaded with buds and hasn't yet bloomed this year is COUNT YOUR ASSETS. Another late bloomer. For the most part, the season is winding down. So sad.
