Tiff,
I had one that sort of got etiolated in our window (I thought a southeast window would of had enough light...), but when I purchased it, it had some of those pink "things" that later turned into pads. I can't say I've seen a picture of one in bloom either. I did read somewhere (I don't know the validity), that 'Joseph's Coat' is the only naturally occurring variegated Opuntia in the wild. That would be interesting if it is true! Which begs the question, if it doesn't bloom, how does it reproduce? *scratches head*

Roundup eh? Eek! Next summer will be here before you know it and hopefully she won't have any weeds to worry about this winter, so at least you won't be making too many more trips. Smiling I guess for the both of us, it is better to leave them in someone else's care than have them die due to something beyond our control. As much as it is nice to have a good rain, sometimes you wish it would go away so it'd stop raining on your plants. I hope that this summer has given you an idea as to the best locations for your plants. Sometimes things will burn in the process (or in my case, etiolate), but if that's what has to happen to find their "happy medium," than so be it right? At least with most tropical plants, they shed their leaves over time anyway so whether it was from old age or burning, they'd look the same down the road regardless.

Beth
