A Tale Of Two Seedlings, or how our muddy red-brown baby from that cross is still here and now has received its name; Once upon a time, I had two Jack Carpenter seedlings, and I decided to do a cross to see what I could get. This would be around 2004. I have only one photograph of the pod parent, but the pollen parent was a very large brilliant red I was calling the big red monster. Here is a photo of the pod parent.

Seedling no. 3 from that cross turned out to be red-brown, muddy to my eyes, and the only one that color. I was going to toss it but my husband said, "I like it". "But is is muddy red" said I. "I like it" he said, so it stayed.

Every year from then on, I would try to get rid of it but to no avail because my husband always said "I like it".

A couple of years ago, we moved red-brown muddy to a new location and it flourished. People would come over to see our daylilies and lo and behold most liked this one because as they said, there is nothing else like it. This year, it really bloomed beautifully, and once again gained compliments from other people. So I have given up on getting rid of red-brown muddy and now a name is in order. Since we live about an hour and a half from Shreveport LA, and each year they have a Mudbug Madness Festival, (for those of you who do not know what mudbugs are, they are crawfish, much loved to eat by people in the south, and maybe elsewhere for all I know) so it seems that Mudbug Madness is an appropriate name for red-brown muddy.

Here it is, the new Mudbug Madness daylily--if you tell me it is indeed muddy and should be tossed, remember my husband--he likes it. One last thing: the photos seem to have more of a purple color---trust me, this is red-brown muddy. Thanks for your time reading this, I welcome all comments.
