Tom, I'm not sure when the "official" date is supposed to be, but in my experience it's usually around the first of October... but a lot of years we'll get a frost somewhere in mid September, just enough to kill stuff off, and then the weather will get warm and beautiful again. (and it seems that even if I'm able to get the tomato plants covered and keep them going, the tomatoes themselves always seem to suffer some damage from the cold) Really hoping that doesn't happen this year!!
