I am in west central Indiana. I have planted as late as early October but would recommend not planting any later then mid September. You want to give the plant time to recover and start putting out new roots. I would also recommend that you mulch well. I just use leaves and start putting them on as they fall from my trees so that by the end of November they are mulched well for winter.
