I have seen them growing on the sides of hills in sandy soil. So drainage has to be good. No standing water. They need watering more often that way. No all day sun. Maybe 1/2 day sun with waterings. If they turn brown, too much sun, turns red ok. Should grow best for you. Show picture if possible.
