Gale, I am in 5b and planted a bunch in Sept. last year. I did loose a few, but he guarantees them to live, and he replaced the ones that died. It was a horrible winter here though, many -22 degree days with no snow cover at times. I'm hoping that isn't what happens this year. I too mulched heavy.
