The fire ants have been here for 6 years, or more. They did get on it early though, so they aren't as bad as some of the other states.
As to my neighbor, I've giving up trying to tell them anything about plants. Someone did tell her about cinnamon though. They have 4 yappers, 1 cat, and a tank full of fish, as well as COPD, so they try to not use any sprays or dusts...especially smelly ones.
