One of our best 'saves' was not a plant at all.

We were in an out of the way place to gather some Pussy Willows; this was also a good spot for bird watching. It was a favorite feeding spot for the American woodcock (Scolopax minor), known as timberdoodle by some people. Very tranquil. Well, tranquil unless we scared the woodcock and he flew straight up flapping like crazy.

We wondered who had deposited the back half of a semi-tractor/trailer truck right there in such a peaceful and natural spot. The trailer was not locked; the doors were wide open and it contained what appeared to be supplies for a butcher shop. We rescued several rolls of butcher paper and two spools of white cotton string.

That was over 25 years ago (yikes!). I am still using that spool of string to tie up plants in my garden. One must keep ones eyes opened for any and all opportunities.
