I have some information, just in case any of you have the African Gardenia (Mitriostigma axillare). It is a very lovely fragrant houseplant, not a real gardenia and so easy to care for. Logee's has been selling it for years but not too many people I know have owned it and I am not sure why. My experience with it has been great and it blooms almost all year. My problem is I left the main center leader grow to tall and now I have a spindly looking plant that I want to trim. But, thank goodness I ask before I cut, because I found that cutting off too much of that particular leader will eventually kill the plant.
Whew! Am I glad I ask for instructions before I did what I was going to do. I was going to cut it back about two feet. It seems that I can only cut no more than 1/3 of the leader or it will be the end of the plant for sure. I also found I can put the cutting in water and see if it will root for me. That will be exciting. Here is what it looks like now, and you can see my problem. Lesson learned....do not wait a few years to see how tall your plant will get because you are then stuck with a tall plant, except for 1/3 of it. Shrug!
