I have thrown discarded seedlings on my compost pile up in the fall, and have had them survive the winter out in the open when it got down to 5. One even had the audacity to BLOOM the next year!!! But, seriously, I've even "heeled" them in for up to six weeks when I was uber busy and they all survived.
Most daylilies can take a licking and keep on ticking.
