I will have to play with the spot metering on my camera. Those pictures on the right are definitely better.
The only problem I have when I change a setting on my camera is when I want to take a picture in an entirely different surrounding, I forget to change something back. Sometimes even knowing I changed a setting, but forgetting what it was
