I have killed every plant that I grow in terracotta pots. I know it is because of my lack of watering. I think they are terrific for normal gardeners that regularly monitor moisture and water their plants when needed.
Normal I am not. I will see my plants screaming for a drink then I run and water. That does not work with terracotta.
