It is a bit of a surprise today when another goanna came through the garden. This one is not as big. I am not happy with such large predators coming through with all the baby birds around. In eight years I had seen only two goannas here. Now I have seen two in a week. I think it is the clearing for new houses that is happening nearby. Well, I won't stop them from being here. (If only they would eat the ibis).
These are Lace Monitors Varanus varius. The Australian name, goanna, is not used by scientists - more their loss.

The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.
