If I use an old metal toolbox, do you think I will need to line it or will it be ok with just soil? It shouldn't need a lot of watering with succulents. I don't have much experience with them. I did have a small hanging pot of donkey's tail as a child Smiling

I would line the box with coir because the metal is going to heat up in the sun. They usual have the coir hanging basket liners in the dollar stores. So for a dollar you would have a good liner to buffer the heat from the metal.

Bev it a jewel to send you cuttings. Getting plants in the mail can really make your day a very good day. Good luck with your new plants. You will soon be hooked.
