Midwesterners use pop. And everyone else finds it funny. I speak from experience - I grew up in pop country then moved to Washington state and then to the south, and boy do they all laugh when you ask what kind of pop they have. Hilarious!

As for dinner being the larger meal of the day. That is extremely common in Europe where they take much longer lunch breaks (including shutting down for siestas), and I believe many of the Germanic people who settled a large part of the northern Midwest brought that custom over with them. It is healthier to eat more earlier in the day, but with everyone working it is not possible to cook up a big dinner. Also, because of the longer dinner period in Eurpoe, they work later so a lighter meal for supper at mid evening makes sense.
