Mine two are in and going well. Took a look to find tops. One rarely sees a pineapple with a top lately. I took off the bottom leaves where the roots are usually showing; soaked in water to get the roots bigger; and then planted.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.
