We saw a number of the species musk ferns in the rainforests in Australia. It is my understanding they are native to parts of Oceania and tropical Asia. They have become naturalized in Hawai'i. It is a very tender perennial, usually suggested for zones 9 through 12. It did not return this year in my zone 9a garden. The average winter temperatures in its' native habitat run between 45F and 70F. It would more than likely not survive in your zone 8a garden. It would need to be a container plant.
