Thanks, Ken, and Elaine. When I saw this I scratched at it lightly, thinking it to be a piece of the medium. It is certainly hard, but Elaine, as you suggested, I will look much closer at it later today. I have 2 other Phals that are producing spikes, and that is what caused me to question this one. Those other 2 spikes look very 'normal'...Exactly what you'd expect a spike to look like. None of this 'white crust'... Thank You! both! I tip my hat to you.
