Anne, they are really easy for us. I just started growing them about 3 or 4 years ago. I did lose a couple, because I put them in too big pots and overwatered them. I just leave them outside in a semi-shaded area until it gets too cold, oh and wet. Then I bring them indoors and place them in my living room, which doesn't get used in the evening. So they have the long period of darkness that they need and get blooms every year. I neglected to feed them regularly during the summer, and they still bloomed their hearts out. I missed the height of blooms, because I was in and out of town during that time, but I did get to see them and enjoy them. Keep trying. On clearance at Wal-Mart on Rivers Ave., I got 4 in. pots for $1.40, 2 days ago to share with friends. Of course, they had already bloomed, but looking at the faded blooms, I saw lavendar, fushia and red ones. You have nothing to lose.
