pardalinum said:Kate, I also worked in analytical chemistry of the inorganic type but am retired now. My main use of glacial acetic acid was for making up a buffer solution for one particular method of aluminum analysis. Most of my work was in wet chemistry but I also did AA, IC, some gas, a little ICP and I am probably forgetting a few. Because I worked in a research facility it never got boring and there was frequent need for method development so I didn't become brain dead from too much repetitiveness!

Wow lol sounds as if your job was very similar to mine, we no longer have our AA but our ICP and ICP-MS are my babies (I run and maintain threm) and I also do a little IC and a fair bit of general on the bench wet chem stuff too. The GC's I leave to my boss though. We are also research based and tend to do more of the specialist chemistry that the 'bucket chemists' in our other lab can't manage lol.
Santa brought me the lego resurch institue for Christmas, as company for a lady lego chemist who lives on my bench at work.
Back on topic, ahem....Sadly my boss doesn't care for plants much, I have a dead coleus on the window above my ICP - must replace that with something when I go back lol

Paddy, have a great trip!

Temps have been up and down here, I still need to get out and clear more mushy semp leaves, but my little gnome has come down with the chicken pox (sadly no relation to chicken grit ;) ) so I've been inside playing nurse this week.

Happy new year everyone Group hug
